Configuring Auto Compare

Introduction

You can configure Synapse per modality to display up to six comparison studies automatically for a patient. When you enable Automatically display comparison studies, you can customize the study selection rules for the specified modality in the drop-down list for Study Selection Rules.

The Comparison study selection rules options determine which studies Synapse selects as potential comparisons based on the following:

  • Same procedure code
  • Related procedure code
  • Selected modality
  • Same modality

Once Synapse selects the potential comparisons based on the auto compare user settings, Synapse displays the comparisons in the order identified in the Comparison Study Sort Options.

Comparison Study Sorting Based on Rule Order

When you select the Display in rule order option, Synapse identifies candidates for auto comparison using the rules as a hierarchy. For example, if you select all the Study Selection Rules, Synapse identifies comparison candidates with the Same procedure code first. If there are no comparisons with the same procedure code or the number of comparisons with the same procedure code does not meet the number of comparisons requested, Synapse considers the next setting, Related procedure code and same modality, to determine additional comparison candidates. This logic continues until the number of comparisons has been met or until no more comparison candidates are identified after checking all of the rules. If you do not select a rule, Synapse will not use that rule in the auto comparison hierarchy.

Open User Settings from the Viewer.

Right-click User Settings .

Open User Settings from the Worklist.

Click  User Settings on the Worklist toolbar.

Open User Settings from PowerJacket.

Click  User Settings on the PowerJacket toolbar.

  1. In the Reading Protocols tab, select Auto Compare.
  2. Select the modality type from the drop-down list for Auto Compare.
  3. Select the Automatically display comparison studies check box. Synapse activates additional auto compare options. Do any of the following:

Select the number of comparison studies that Synapse displays automatically when you initially open a study.

Select the number of comparison studies from the drop-down menu.

Automatically display comparison studies only when you open an unread study.

Select Only for unread studies.

Include comparison studies that are newer than the current study.

Select Include studies newer than current study.
  1. In the Study Selection Rules panel, select any of the following:

Automatically open comparison studies that have the same procedure code as the current study.

Select Same procedure code.

Display comparison studies only if the procedure code is related to the current study and the study modality is the same as the current study.

Note: Related procedure codes are site configurable and must be in place for this option to work.

Select Related procedure code and same modality.

Display comparison studies only if the procedure code is related to the current study and the study modality is one of the selected modalities in this option.

  • Select Related procedure code and selected modality.
  • Select each modality that you want to include.

Display comparison studies only if the procedure code is related to the current study. Synapse ignores modality match.

Select Related procedure code and any modality.

Automatically open comparison studies that have the same modality as the current study.

Select Same modality.
  1. In the Exclusion By Date Range panel, do any of the following:

Choose this option...

Exclude studies that were acquired more recently than the time period specified.

For example, if you select 2 and Day(s) from the drop-down lists, Synapse excludes all studies acquired more recent than two days after the current study.
  • Select Exclude studies newer than.
  • Select the range from the drop-down menu.
  • Select the time in days, weeks, months, or years from the drop-down menu.

Exclude studies that were acquired after the time period specified.

For example, if you select 6 and Month(s) from the drop-down lists, Synapse excludes studies acquired more than six months from the date of the current study.
  • Select Exclude studies older than.
  • Select the range from the drop-down menu.
  • Select the time in days, weeks, months, or years from the drop-down menu.
  1. In the Comparison Study Sort panel, do any one of the following:

Automatically sort comparison studies by acquisition date and time from the most recent study to the oldest study.

Select Display in acquired order, most recent to older.

Automatically sort comparison studies by acquisition date and time from the oldest study to the most recent study.

Select Display in acquired order, oldest to most recent.

Display studies in the order of the Study Selection Rules.

Select Display in rule order.
  1. Repeat for additional modalities that you want to customize the selection rules for.

Results

Synapse automatically saves any updated options and displays the following message in the bottom left corner of the window: Successfully saved.

Synapse displays the following message to alert you that an action must be taken for the settings to apply: Refresh the Synapse browser window for settings to apply.
