Browser Considerations
Introduction
Synapse 5 supports Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 11, and Edge in IE Mode. You might find some minor functionality differences, based on the browser you are using. Third-party hardware and software may also respond differently, based on your environment. Following are some browser behaviors to be aware of.
Using Clipboard Capture
The clipboard capture options differ, depending on the following configurations:

Note: |
If you are using Hybrid mode and have several browser tabs open, the available memory may be impacted by the use of these resources. |
Not Supported in Internet Explorer 11
Clicking the My History or Search All Studies button in the Viewer will not refocus the browser window if the Worklist is minimized. Because this issue is due to a technical limitation within Internet Explorer.
Not Supported in Google Chrome
- Synapse 3D
- Viewing reports in Result Manager
- Drag and drop of a URL to an application such as Word
- Without the Chrome plugin, if you close the Viewer and PowerJacket, you must refresh the (Chrome) browser before you can open a subsequent study from any Worklist.
- Scenarios in which Synapse PACS automatically closes windows are not supported in Chrome without installation of the Windows Positioning Plugin.
Window Management Plugin
Install this customized plugin for Chrome browser window management to ensure maximum support. This plugin manages issues around window positioning, repositioning, focus, resizing, and more. These steps should also be completed by anyone using Chrome.
Note: |
In your browser, a white page displays by default until the requested page loads. To mitigate this issue, complete the following steps for Chrome and Internet Explorer. |
For Google Chrome, install the following Chrome extension:
- Open Chrome. Copy and paste the following URL into a Chrome window to open the Window Positioning Plugin page.
- Click ADD TO CHROME.
- Click Add extensionwhen the Add "Window Positioning Plugin"? dialog box displays.
- A green ADDED TO CHROME confirmation displays in the top right of the Window Positioning Plugin page.
- Click the X in the top right of the page to close the page.
For Internet Explorer, see Configuring Internet Explorer.
Note: |
To avoid the brief appearance of a white flash between the login page and the Worklist page, change your browser background page to black. |
Running Internet Explorer/Edge IE Mode and Skype
If you are running Skype along with any version of Internet Explorer: when an accession number displays in the same format used for a telephone number, the Skype icon displays in Synapse next to the accession number. If you right-click the accession number, Skype gives you the option to call what Skype is interpreting as a telephone number.
The workaround for this issue is to disable the Skype add-on.
- Open the browser settings.
- Click Manage add-ons.
- Click to highlight the Skype add-on.
- Click Disable.
- Click Close.
Internet Explorer Menu Bar Default Settings and Synapse Shortcut Keys
If you have turned your Internet Explorer Menu bar to OFF by default, utilizing any shortcut key that includes the ALT key causes unexpected behavior.
In Internet Explorer, right-click next the top of the screen next to the home or settings icons and select Menu bar.
